Fit To Practice with Angela Han

Are you living your best life? What about your dream life? What is holding you back? If it’s money you are in the right place.

In October of 2020, my business was just starting to take off and I was flattered to be a guest on Angela Han’s podcast, Fit to Practice. In addition to being a top-notch human being, Angela (like myself) strives to help other lawyers feel more fulfilled and live happier, healthy lives through her passion.

As a lawyer, life coach, and (at the time) brand new mom, Angela helps lawyers get results by transforming blind spots into strengths. She does not settle for mediocre in her life and doesn’t think you should have to either! Whether it is figuring out what you want, how to get it or just following through she is there to help her clients get out of their own way and onto the path of whole-body satisfaction.

Every episode of her podcast supports her desire to help other lawyers, by featuring guests who also help in all facets of life.

During our 40 minute conversation, Angela grilled me about my story and how I help other lawyers revive from of the same unsettling feelings I was having while practicing as a biglaw lawyer.

As smart as lawyers are, they often have anxiety when it comes to managing their own money. Where do I start? Is my budget right? Am I saving enough? Where is all my money going? I want to make a major change but can I afford it?

Angela didn’t waste any time when asking the big questions starting at the beginning. We talked about exit strategies and what my specific situation looked like leading me to leave biglaw and find a career that speaks directly to my soul.

The subject of trying to pay down student loans while paying for childcare is overwhelming in its own right, let alone trying to add saving for the future in the mix.

The secret is figuring out what is MOST important to you and then building up from that. Angela and I talk about an exercise I do with all my clients to answer that very question, which is especially helpful for couples trying to navigate compromise when it comes to values and budget. (HINT: minute 18)

No strategy I give is a simple fix. As an Accredited Financial Counselor, I want to help my clients change their behavior and the way they look at money for the long term. Changing money habits can make the difference of a lifetime and open up the door for endless possibilities.

Listen to this episode to see how I graduated from law school as a single mom of twins, entered the world of litigation through a biglaw, became a government lawyer and eventually made a run for it to start my own business doing what I was meant to do.
